Want to sell beats online in South Africa but don’t have the budget for a website yet? No stress — you can still start selling your beats for free using platforms like BeatStars or Airbit.
In this guide, I’ll show you exactly how to get started for free, how to receive payments via PayPal, and how to grow from there.
Step 1: Export Your Beats Properly
Even if you’re using a free plan, your beats need to be ready for sale.
🎧 Export these versions:
File Type | Use |
---|---|
Tagged MP3 | For previews |
Untagged MP3 | For basic lease |
Untagged WAV | For wav & unlimited lease |
Stems/Trackouts | For unlimited lease and exclusive sales |
💡 Tip: Keep a zipped folder ready for each beat that includes all relevant files + your license PDF.
Step 2: Use a Free Plan on BeatStars or Airbit
BeatStars Free Plan:
- Upload up to 10 beats
- Create a free profile page
- Get exposure through their search system
Airbit Free Plan:
- Upload up to 10 beats
- Embed a basic player on social media or website
- Includes a free PayPal checkout
⚠️ Important for South African producers:
Neither platform supports local payment gateways like PayFast, Yoco, or EFT.
So you’ll need to receive payments through PayPal.
Step 3: Set Up Your PayPal Account
To sell beats through BeatStars or Airbit, you must link a PayPal account.
Here’s how:
- Go to PayPal South Africa Signup
- Choose a Personal or Business account
- Link your email and FNB bank account (FNB is the PayPal withdrawal partner in SA)
- Once active, link your PayPal email inside your BeatStars or Airbit dashboard

Step 4: Add Your Beats
Upload your 10 best beats to start:
- Choose searchable titles like:
“Amapiano Type Beat – Tyler ICU x Kabza 2025”
- Upload a Tagged MP3 for preview
- Set your price (e.g. R300 for Lease, R1000 for Unlimited)
Step 5: Promote Your Beats (For Free)
Instagram & TikTok
- Post beat snippets with bold text: “BUY BEATS – LINK IN BIO”
YouTube
- Upload your beats as Type Beat videos
- Include your BeatStars or Airbit store link in the description
- Share links with artists directly
- Offer free previews and let them know you accept PayPal
What If Your Client Doesn’t Have PayPal?
This is common in South Africa. That’s why it helps to educate your audience.
Include this message in your DMs or post captions:
“Don’t have PayPal? It’s free to sign up in South Africa and works with Capitec, FNB, and TymeBank. I’ll guide you if you need help!”
Then link them to your PayPal signup guide or paypal.com/za
Final Thoughts
You don’t need a website to start selling beats in South Africa. Use BeatStars or Airbit Free Plan, connect your PayPal, and promote your beats like crazy. Once you start making sales, you can upgrade to a full beat store later using WooCommerce or Shopify.
